Well, it happened ladies and gentlemen. For the first time in over ten years of doing photography, we did not take one single photo outside. Yes, you read that correctly. On the day of Lexi and Zach’s wedding, the rain was so insistent and refused to let up for even a minute. HOWEVER, thanks to the wonderful new Omni Hotel in downtown Louisville, we were able to take all of their photos inside without anyone getting wet! On the second floor of the hotel where all of the conference rooms are, there are two large open reception areas that have floor to ceiling windows. Now, I don’t believe they will just let anyone take photographs in there, but we lucked out that the entire bridal party was getting ready at that hotel. It was such a gift.
We started our weekend with Lexi and Zach at Lexi’s aunt’s house for the rehearsal dinner the night before. The theme was true to the Louisville roots and featured Derby glasses and horses and red roses. The tables were laid with vintage quilts as tablecloths. There was even a bar and a bluegrass band on the back deck. And string lights gave the perfect ambiance. It was such a great night with delicious food and fun camaraderie.
Lexi and Zach are such a fun, young couple and all of their friends were so great on the wedding day too. All of the girls occupied a suite on one floor, scattered throughout the room, getting hair or makeup done. Or just relaxing on the couches. Lexi had gotten them all PJs as a gift. After a photo in the PJs, all of the girls got dressed. Then Lexi got into her beautiful wedding gown with the help of her mom. With a cute reveal with her girls done, we headed off to meet the guys. In a similar suite on another floor, the guys were all getting into their tuxes and putting on the finishing touches. We had them do a toast, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite photos with the guys. Lexi had sent a gift down for Zach, which he opened and showed us was a giant map of the lands from Game of Thrones, his favorite TV show.
As I mentioned above, we didn’t get to go outside for photos, but we were able to do the first look, portraits of the two of them, and group photos all on the second floor of the Omni. They both did an amazing job, moving fluidly to get the perfect photos. You can see the happiness and love they feel in the photos.
A very close friend of Lexi and Zach’s performed their ceremony. They even wrote their own vows. It was so sweet, and even had some funny moments. After the ceremony, since we had all of the photos out of the way before it even started, we headed to The Gramercy. We were able to take our time in the dining room, as the cocktail hour was in full swing in the lobby, to take some detail photos of the gorgeous decorations. It was so fun to get to see Lexi and Zach have such a fun-filled night with their family and friends. We are so happy they chose us to be present for their special day! And can’t wait to join them for a Comic Con sometime in Chicago ;)
