Aw I love Kayla and David. One of the most chill couples. Kayla was a roommate of our beloved Amy Vanover, and so when she and David got engaged Amy told her she had to choose us to photograph the wedding. And they did! You may remember their lovely Fall engagement session at the Hursthourne Country Club.
On the wedding day, we met up with the girls, and later the boys, at the Henry Clay in downtown Louisville. We love the Henry Clay and have had the privilege to photograph 4 weddings there now. When the girls arrived, we snapped some photos of the details in the great bridal suite they have at the Henry Clay. We were even able to get a few photos of the ceremony and reception rooms as we waited for the girls to get dressed. Then Kayla got into her dress with the help of her mom. She was so relaxed the whole time. We even did a cute reveal with Kayla and her bridesmaids.
David and his groomsmen got ready in another one of the rooms at the Henry Clay. They were all having a great time, putting on their bow ties while we took photos. David's brother, and best man, was on hand to help his brother for his big day.
Once Kayla and David were ready, we took them outside for a first look. We had David stand with his back to the door then brought Kayla our to stand with her back to his. David said a prayer with her then they read letters to each other before they turned around. It was such a sweet moment and they were so happy to be together.
It was a pretty hot day, so we let the bridal party hang out inside while we took photos of Kayla and David outside. They are such naturals in front of the camera- relaxed and just themselves. Jessica and I split up at this point; she took the girls to the front of the Henry Clay and I stayed with the guys outside the back of the building. Then we took the whole bridal party back up to the courtyard on the fourth floor for some full bridal party shots.
Then it was ceremony time! Kayla and David had such a sweet and personal ceremony performed by a friend and with readings from family members. After some family photos, it was time to party! The reception had great details like a Bourbon barrel tops cut to the shape of Kentucky as a guest book, Bourbon barrels as decorations, and koozies for favors (my favorite!). They even had papers on the tables for guests to jot down advice for the couple. The festivities included great speeches given by David's brother and Kayla's best friend, a choreographed dance between Kayla and her dad, the shoe game, and sorority and fraternity songs!
We had such a great time with Kayla and David! And we're so glad they chose us to capture this special day.
